Enrouteq supports the new sustainable urban mobility plan for Mexico

On June 15, The Mexican Secretariat of Agrarian, Land and Urban Development (SEDATU) presented the Movilidad 4S (Mobility 4S) plan towards a new normal in the country. The strategy aims to offer local authorities a comprehensive plan on how to govern the mobility of people and goods to reactivate the economy and increase the well-being of the general population post COVID-19.

Together with more than 100 non-governmental organizations, enrouteQ has participated in the elaboration of this mobility plan. The strategy was prepared by SEDATU, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (SSA), the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMAR- NAT), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PHO).

The Mobility 4S document addresses four main topics: Health, Safety, Sustainability and Solidarity, 12 strategies and 22 actions.

One of the key indicators for these strategies outlines the importance of providing a better, more inclusive and sustainable public transport service:

  • Increase service frequency with dedicated lanes for public transport, as well as signal priority traffic light systems to reduce transfer times and improve frequency.

  • Foster application use and development of tech platforms that are accessible to all, solutions for managing urban public transport demand, schedules, incidents and detours, as well as user service alert systems.

  • Encourage the use of contactless payments as a more sustainable option to cash, and open fare collection through APIs.

The Mobility 4S plan will be complemented with different guides and training programs throughout the year, and will be elaborated and published with the support from the organizations that have helped to create it.
